Water seepage at Meghanada Pahcheri raises concerns over temple's preservation

Puri, Dec 15: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has sent a letter to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) regarding ongoing maintenance and preservation efforts at Meghanada Pahcheri. A key meeting is scheduled for Tuesday to discuss further steps. If needed, a discussion will be held with the senior ASI officials in Delhi.

Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan confirmed that repairs have already been made to a crack found in Meghanada Pahcheri. After another inspection, the state government plans additional restoration work. The temple administration has also requested ASI to evaluate the site in detail. The preservation efforts will continue, and further inspections will determine if stone replacement is necessary.

Worth mentioning, the issue of water seepage has resurfaced at Meghanada Pahcheri, the outer protective wall of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. Water has been steadily oozing from the wall near the Snana Mandap area, raising concerns among devotees and servitors. Moss growth on the wall also indicates long-term moisture buildup.

This is not the first time this issue has arisen. Water seepage was reported last year, prompting the temple administration to clean the moss patches. However, despite these efforts, the seepage has returned at the same location this year. The Meghanada Pahcheri, which serves as a vital protective barrier for the 12th-century temple, has been struggling with repeated seepage since 2021.
