Puri, Nov 15: Odisha is gearing up to take centre stage in the global energy sector by hosting the prestigious Global Energy Leaders’ Summit (GELS) 2025 in Puri, from December 5 to 7. Organised by the state’s Department of Energy, the event will bring together energy ministers, policymakers, innovators, and researchers from India and around the world to discuss the future of sustainable power and energy innovation.

The logo for the summit was unveiled on Thursday in New Delhi by Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Naik, and Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister, KV Singh Deo. Additionally, the official website for the event, www.gelsodisha2025.com, was launched.

Speaking at the event, Principal Secretary of Energy, Vishal Kumar Dev, shared that experts and stakeholders from over seven countries, including Canada, Brazil, Indonesia, Bhutan, and Singapore, are expected to attend. He emphasized that the summit would provide a platform for sharing best practices and innovative solutions in the energy sector to foster collective growth.

The theme for GELS 2025, “Powering India: Sufficiency, Balance, Innovation,” will focus on three core areas: ensuring a sufficient and efficient power supply, balancing ecological sustainability with economic growth, and driving innovation across the energy value chain. The summit is being organised in partnership with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur.

Union Minister Shripad Naik stated that the summit will play a crucial role in advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of sustainability and cooperative federalism, helping India progress towards its goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070.

KV Singh Deo expressed pride in hosting the summit, saying, “Odisha is proud to host a summit of this scale, bringing together global leadership and setting the ball rolling for a community of practice among energy ministers. Through GELS 2025, we aim to create a platform where states can learn from one another and turn innovation into progress.”

Energy ministers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Bhutan, along with leading global experts like Gareth Walsh and Pierre Noel from the Tony Blair Institute, will also be featured during the summit.

As Odisha positions itself as a hub for clean energy and industrial development, GELS 2025 promises to reinforce the state’s role as a thought leader in shaping India’s future energy strategy.
