Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: Panic broke out at Shikharachandi as two elephants suddenly charged into a crowd of tourists during a Christmas picnic. Tourists, who were enjoying music, dance, and picnics, panicked and ran for safety, leaving their meals behind.

According to forest officials, the elephants-one male with tusks and a female-are part of a herd of seven that migrated from Chandka forest to Bharatpur three days ago. The animals had been roaming around Shikharachandi since Thursday, trumpeting and making their presence felt.

Forest department staff reached the scene promptly and successfully drove the two elephants back, ensuring no injuries were reported. Authorities have advised tourists to avoid approaching elephants and remain cautious in the area.
