Three day event engages 550 employees in eighteen disciplines
Bhubaneswar: Athletic energy has taken over the capital city as the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) launched its highly anticipated sporting extravaganza. Kicking off on December 22, the 3rd OMC Annual Sports Meet 2025 promises three days of intense competition, teamwork, and celebration. Managing Director Shri Sudhansu Mohan Samal, IAS, officially declared the meet open, setting the tone for an event that celebrates more than just physical agility.
Venues across Bhubaneswar, including the iconic Kalinga Stadium, the Biju Patnaik Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, and the East Coast Railway Cricket Stadium, are playing host to the competitions. The inauguration ceremony was graced by key leadership figures, including Executive Director (F&E) Shri Sudhanshu Shekhar Khora, Director (Operations) Shri Sabyasachi Mohanty, Director (HR) Shri Alok Kumar Pal, and Director (Finance) Shri Bana Bihari Pani, showcasing the management's support for employee well-being.
Celebrating Team Spirit and Culture
This year, the scale of participation is impressive. More than 550 workforce members have stepped out of their office roles and onto the field. They are competing in 18 diverse disciplines ranging from team sports like cricket and volleyball to individual track events such as sprints, long jump, javelin throw, and table tennis.
During his address, Shri Samal emphasized that this gathering serves a higher purpose beyond winning medals. He described the OMC Annual Sports Meet 2025 as a celebration of discipline and camaraderie, noting how sports can dissolve barriers between different regions and roles. He reinforced that the collective strength seen on the field mirrors the dedication driving OMC’s significant contribution to the state's development.
Safety and Heritage Take Center Stage
Adding a festive touch to the competitive atmosphere, the opening ceremony featured vibrant Sambalpuri folk dance and music, showcasing Odisha’s rich cultural tapestry to the captivated audience. Safety remained a priority as well. Before the first whistle blew, all officials and participants took a solemn pledge to uphold fair play, prevent injuries, and adhere to strict safety norms throughout the tournament.
Notably, the corporation took this opportunity to felicitate internationally acclaimed sportspersons who are currently employed at OMC. This gesture highlighted the organization's dual commitment to professional growth and nurturing sporting excellence. Running until December 24, the meet aims to foster inclusivity and inter-regional bonding among its dedicated workforce.
