Bhubaneswar, Jan 23: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar has been honoured as the top government facility in the category of Linking Health Records under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The institute has achieved the No. 1 National Rank in Health Record Linkage, marking a significant milestone in India’s digital health transformation journey.

The prestigious award was presented during the Chintan Shivir held at Bhubaneswar on 19–20 January 2026, organized by the National Health Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

The award was received by Executive Director, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Biswas, along with IT Committee Chairman, Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohanty, from Anu Garg, Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha.

A two-day Chintan Shivir brought together senior policymakers and health administrators from across the country to review progress and chart the future roadmap of digital health initiatives under ABDM. Representatives from 27 States and 7 Union Territories participated in the deliberations. Distinguished dignitaries present included Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO, NHA, Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary Health, Rajasthan,  Sampath Kumar, Principal Secretary Health, Meghalaya, Aswathy S., Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Odisha, Dr. Brundha D., CEO, State Health Assurance Society, along with senior officials from NHA and State Health Departments.

Under the able guidance of  Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda Ji, this recognition highlights AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s leadership, dedication, and excellence in advancing digital health initiatives for seamless, citizen-centric healthcare delivery, said AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar has recorded remarkable progress in ABDM implementation, including 42 lakh health record linkages, generation of 19 lakh ABHA tokens. Successful implementation of Scan & Pay facility to streamline billing, reduce patient queues, and enhance hospital efficiency.

These initiatives have significantly improved patient convenience, ensured paperless workflows, and strengthened continuity of care, added Dr. Biswas.

Health Record Linking in ABHA involves securely connecting a patient’s digital medical records, including OPD visits, laboratory reports, prescriptions, and discharge summaries — to their ABHA ID, with patient consent. This enables individuals to access and share their health records anytime, supports interoperability across healthcare institutions, and ensures continuity of care nationwide.
