Bhubaneswar, Mar 30: Voting for the election of office-bearers of all 153 bar associations in Odisha began today. The lawyers are turning out in lrage numbers to cast their vote.
Voting commenced at 8 am and will continue till 3 pm. Vote counting is slated to commence at 4 pm, followed by the announcement of results.
The bar association election provides opportunity for all eligible members to have their say in selecting their representatives.
Approximately 40,000 lawyers are expected to participate in this electoral process.
These members subsequently choose the chairman, vice-chairman, and a Bar Council of India representative.
Worth mentioning, elections are underway for 153 bar associations throughout the State under the 'One Bar One Vote' principle.
The 'One Bar One Vote' principle forms part of the guidelines established by the Supreme Court in 2015 to ascertain the number of legitimate advocates practising in different courts nationwide. While the rule permits advocates to hold memberships in multiple bars, it grants them only one voting right.
