Bhubaneswar, March 9: Veteran Odisha journalist Ashutosh Mishra passed away at a hospital in Bhubaneswar on Sunday night, family sources said on Monday. He was 68.

Mishra is survived by his wife Saroj, a son and a daughter. He had been actively involved in journalism in Odisha for nearly four decades.

According to family members, Mishra developed a fever on Sunday morning and spent the day at home watching a T20 World Cup match. Later in the evening, he complained of pain and was rushed to Capital Hospital, where he breathed his last that night.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the veteran journalist’s demise. In a post on X, he said Mishra’s passing was an irreplaceable loss to journalism in the state and prayed to Lord Jagannath for the peace of the departed soul while extending condolences to the bereaved family.

Leader of Opposition and BJD president Naveen Patnaik also expressed grief, saying Mishra’s long-standing contributions to journalism in Odisha would always be remembered. He offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his sympathies to the family.

Family sources said the last rites of the veteran journalist will be performed after his daughter arrives in Bhubaneswar from abroad.
