Phulbani, Aug 6: The Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Phiringia police station Tapan Kumar Nahak has been transferred to the headquarters. The action followed after a mob on Saturday set the Phiringia police station on fire alleging its IIC and two home guards’ involvement in ganja smuggling.
Similarly, two home guards have been relieved from work. The protestors have blazed furniture, vehicles, and important records of police barging into the police station, aggrieved over the inaction of authorities against the alleged cops. They have also thrashed the SDPO along with other officials.
Police have also arrested at least 15 persons in connection with the triggering violence inside the police station.
IG Satyabrata Bhoi said the situation is now under control. However, Section 144 has been imposed in the area and 10 platoons of armed forces have been deployed here to tackle any untoward situation.
Further investigation led by Bhoi is underway to probe the reason behind the violence and the alleged involvement of cops in cannabis smuggling.
