Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: A 12-hour nationwide Bharat Bandh called by trade unions is being observed today from 6 AM to 6 PM, impacting normal life across several regions. The strike has led to the closure of markets, transportation services, schools, and colleges in many areas.

Examinations in some private schools have been postponed due to the shutdown. Passenger bus services have also been suspended in view of the bandh. Markets and various commercial establishments are likely to remain closed throughout the day.s. However, government offices are functioning as usual, and essential services continue to operate.

The strike has been called by labour organisations and five Left parties. It is being coordinated by a joint platform comprising 14 central trade unions (CTUs), independent all-India federations, and Left parties. The bandh has received support from Congress and Biju Shramik Samukhya, while BJD has extended moral support.

Workers from insurance, postal, transport, construction, mining, and industrial sectors are participating in the strike, leading to work stoppages in mining belts and industrial areas.

In view of the Bharat Bandh, the state government has issued advisories to ensure smooth functioning of administrative work. Government employees working at Lok Seva Bhavan, Kharavela Bhavan, Rajiv Bhavan, Krushi Bhavan, and other departmental headquarters have been instructed to report to their offices by 9:30 AM.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to maintain law and order during the bandh.
