Balasore, Nov 7: The headmaster of a nodal school in Balasore district of Odisha was thrashed by villagers on Monday for molesting a girl student.
Villagers alleged that Gobinda Jena, the headmaster of Mundhabani Nodal School, molested a Class VIII girl during school hour on Friday last week.
She expressed her reluctance to go to school on Saturday. When her parents asked repeatedly, the girl narrated her ordeal.
As the school was closed on Sunday, the school managing committee convened a meeting on Monday and the accused reportedly admitted to his misconduct and apologised to the student’s parents. Jena said that he is in a disturbed state of mind following his wife’s cancer and unfortunately it happened due to mental imbalance.
The villagers caught hold of the headmaster and thrashed him while he was on his way back to home after school hour.
Block education officer (BEO) Kamal Lochan Biswal said after being apprised by members of the school management committee,Local cluster research centre coordinator (CRCC) Lambodhar Jena reached the school being informed about the incident and conducted a probe into the matter.
“The CRCC informed us that the headmaster confessed to have molested the girl student. Disciplinary action will be taken once the CRCC submits the inquiry report,” said Block education officer (BEO) Biswal.
However, no police complaint has been filed in connection with the incident.
