Bhubaneswar, Sept 29: The Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday launched a major search operation against Sambalpur Factory and Boilers Assistant Director Umakanta Samantaray on allegations of possessing disproportionate assets.

Simultaneous searches are underway at seven locations across Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Khordha districts. A large Vigilance team comprising eight DSPs, 11 inspectors and 11 ASIs is conducting the searches at multiple locations. The premises being searched include Samantaray’s 3-BHK flat at Sun City Apartment in Dhanakauda, Sambalpur; a duplex in Nandan Vihar, Bhubaneswar; and a building in the Barakuda area of Jatni. Vigilance officials are also searching his three-storey building at Baliguali in Puri, along with two two-storey buildings located at Ashok Nagar and Subash Marg in Balugaon.
In addition, searches are being conducted at his office in Sambalpur, where officials are examining relevant documents. The raids are being carried out on the strength of search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur. The assessment of Samantaray’s assets is currently underway, and further details are awaited.
