Jagatsinghpur, Aug 2: A team of Cuttack Vigilance intercepted a tainted Sub-Inspector of Police in Odisha’s Jagatsighpur district on Friday who was fleeing after receiving bribe money from a person, to evade legal action.
The cop, identified as Bibekananda Sahu, SI Kujang PS, was forwarded to court following a case was registered against him under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018.
As per reports, the SI was receiving a sum of Rs 8,000 from a person to carry out the bail order of a person accused of a miscellaneous case. Meanwhile, sleuths of the Vigilance reached the spot to apprehend the cop red-handed.However, being aware of the trap, SI Sahu ran away from the spot whereas he was chased by the Vigilance officials. Finally,he was intercepted on the way to Jagatsinghpur after hour-long hide and seek.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were launched on Sahu’s official residence on the Kujanga police station campus, in his house at Govindpur in Dhenkanal and his office chamber, vigilance said.
