Bhubaneswar, Feb 2: Veteran Odia cine actor, producer and director Sadhu Meher passed away in Mumbai on Friday.
Odia actor Sabyasachi Mohapatra informed it in the afternoon.
Meher was a prominent figure in Odia and Hindi film industries since decades. He had also performed in both Odia and Hindi films acting in the key roles.
Meher had began his career in Hindi films from Bhuvan Shome subsequently he produced Ankur, and Mrigaya. Later he shifted his interest towards Odia films.
Meher was one of the renowned actors who gained prominence in parallel Cinema in the mid-1980s. He had also acted in Byomkesh Bakshi in the episodes "Aadim Shatru and "Chakrant" as Anadi Haldar and Bishupal respectively.
Meher had won a National Film Award for Best Actor for Ankur. He was conferred Padma Sri by the Government of India in 2017 for his lifetime contribution to the field of entertainment.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed his condolences following the demise of Meher.
Naveen said Meher has received many acolades for his contribution to the field of acting and his death has created a void in the film industry.
