London, July 22: England batting mainstay Joe Root has hit his 32nd Test century. His last Test ton came against visiting West Indies team in the second game of the three-match series in Nottingham on Sunday. England also took a 2-0 unassailable lead in the series.
Perhaps expecting Root to carry on further in his impressive red-ball format, former England captain Michael Vaughan has voiced his belief that he (Root) can surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record of most Test runs (15,921).
As Root scored his 32nd Test century, he overtook the West Indian Shivnarine Chanderpaul to become the eighth-highest run-scorer in the history of Test cricket.
Excited with Root's good run in Test cricket, Vaughan stated that he (Root) is on track to surpass England’s all-time run-scoring record. Furthermore, his exceptional talent indicates that he may ultimately eclipse the legendary run totals of Tendulkar.
Sachin has a gigantic Test record of 51 Test hundreds and 15,921 runs. Root, who is already 34 years old, has so far scrored 32 tons and 11,940 runs.
Vaughan's optimism has evoked mixed response in the global cricket circle. Many former players remarked that despite Root's exceptional performance as a Test cricketer, it is bit too early to predict that he can topple Sachin's records.
