Bhubaneswar, September 11: Utkal University authorities on Thursday carried out an eviction drive to clear unauthorised occupants from staff quarters on the Vani Vihar campus, following a similar action taken recently in the gents’ hostels.

The operation was conducted with strong security arrangements, as nearly four platoons of police personnel were deployed to ensure smooth execution, officials said. Notices had been served in advance to those occupying the quarters without permission.

University sources revealed that around 50 staff quarters had been illegally sublet to outsiders, even though the facilities were meant exclusively for university officers and employees. Many of these quarters are now in poor condition due to prolonged misuse, the officials added.
