New York, Sep 7: World number one Jannik Sinner will play Taylor Fritz in the US Open Final on Sunday at the Flushing Meadows.
In the battle of two Americans in the semi-final, Fritz defeated compatriot Frances Tiafoe in a five-set thriller 4-6 7-5 4-6 6-4 6-1. The 12th seed had previously never made it beyond the quarter-final of a Grand Slam in four attempts.
As per records, Fritz is the first American man in 15 years to reach a Grand Slam singles.
Worth mentioning that Andy Roddick was the last American man to reach a Grand Slam singles final - at Wimbledon in 2009. He was also the last to reach a US Open final in 2006.
It was Roddick, who was the last American to win a major men's singles title, having triumphed at the US Open in 2003.
