New York, Sep 3: With Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz out of the tournament with shocking defeats, US Open 2024 is set to create a new tennis superstar, who will lift the Grand Slam, here.
Among those in contention are world No 1 Jannik Sinner, who marched into the US Open quarterfinals after a straight-set victory against American Tommy Paul 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-1.
The battle was intense and Paul played quality tennis in front of his home crowd, but eventually it was Sinner, who capitalized on the big points, particularly in the two tie-breaks and had the last laugh.
As the match progressed, Sinner improved his rhythm and got into the act with more precision and purpose. His pace and ground-strokes were very decisive in deciding the fate of the match.
In the quarterfinal, Sinner will play Daniil Medvedev. That encounter is likely to be a rematch of the Australian Open final this year.
Considering their past records against each other, Medvedev leads the career head to head 7-5. But the winner of that quarterfinal, as per experts may be the eventual winner of US Open 2024.
But in sports, it is never over till it's over.
