Bhubaneswar, April 13:While lifting of newborns from hospital beds is becoming rampant in these days, a lactating baby was reportedly snatched from a visually impaired mother’s lap, late night on Saturday.
The heart-wrenching incident took place amid the hustle & bustle of the Capital City, Bhubaneswar.
The bereaved mother, identified as Jayanti Mallick, mourns before the cops, to getting back her infant, a one-and-a-half-year-old boy.
According to the complaint lodged before the Kharavela Nagar Police on Sunday, scribed by some social activists, Jayanti who used to take shelter near the Ram Temple in Bhubaneswar for over 5 years, was taking rest at night with her baby.Meanwhile, an unidentified man reached there and offered her juice, in the wee hours of Saturday.Later, he escaped with the baby leaving the helpless mother alone, who was fast asleep.
Responding to the scream, locals and social activist rushed to the spot, took stock of the matter and escorted the bereaved mother to the police.
The police have initiated a prompt investigation into the matter condoling the weeping mother with getting the baby back, onto her lap.
