Bhubaneswar, October 30: In order expedite the registration of properties, streamline service delivery and provide convenience to the people, the Odisha Government will begin property registration, buying, and selling directly at tehsil offices from November 1.
“In the first phase, the facility of land registration, buying, and selling will be done at 44 tehsils from November 1. Chief Minister will launch the facility,” said Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Thursday.
He said that the service will be extended to other tehsils in a phased manner. Tehsildars will be empowered as the Sub-Registrars to carry out the initiative.
“In the second phase, the facility will be available at 54 tehsils from December 1. The service will be made available in rest of the tehsils in the third phase,” said Pujari.
“Now, people need not have to visit block and district headquarters to buy or sell properties. Registration of properties will now be available at Tehsils. People can book slots online,” said Pujari.
Notably, the Revenue Minister on October 17 said that the Odisha Government will establish 139 new Sub-Registrar offices in the State for registration of properties and to streamline service delivery and provide convenience to the people.
The Sub-Registrar offices are responsible for the registration of properties bought and sold, deeds and gifts involving substantial amounts. The stamp duty charged for documentation is a major source of revenue for the State Government.
