Bhubaneswar, Jan 5: The Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) has made a drastic decision to shut down the Outpatient Department (OPD) for 2 hours from Monday due to unresolved demands with the government.

Despite the government's lack of response to the doctors' demands, the doctors are firm in their stance and have decided to continue their protest.

Starting Monday, OPD services at various government hospitals will be closed from 9 am to 11 am, causing significant inconvenience for patients seeking medical attention. However, medical services at the medical college have been exempted from this decision.

On the other hand, the OMSA has expressed its approval of this decision, supporting the doctors' protest. The doctors are demanding various improvements, including promotions, salary hikes, better workplace safety, and the fulfillment of 10 key demands. Despite their protest, the government has not taken any substantial steps to address their concerns. Consequently, the OMSA central working committee decided to extend the OPD shutdown by an additional hour, from 10 am to 11 am, starting from the 26th of the month. This protest is gaining momentum across various parts of the state, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the medical community and the government.

The doctors continue to push for their demands, hoping to bring attention to the challenges they face while serving the public.
