President Murmu to Indian Women's Cricket Team: 'You Have Become Role Models'

New Delhi: The world champion Indian Women's Cricket Team met with the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday following their historic victory at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.

The President, who hails from Odisha, warmly congratulated the entire team for creating history and making the nation proud. She stated that millions of Indians, both at home and abroad, are celebrating this momentous achievement.

In her address, President Murmu emphasised that the team is a reflection of India itself.

"You represent different regions, different social backgrounds, different circumstances. But you are one Team—India," the President said, highlighting how the team showcases the nation's unity in diversity.

She specifically praised the team for strengthening the belief of all Indians by defeating the seven-time world champion and previously undefeated Australian team in the tournament. The President called the decisive victory in the final match a "memorable example of Team India’s excellence."

In a heartfelt message to the players, President Murmu called them powerful role models for the entire country. "The younger generation, especially girls, will be inspired by you to move ahead in life," she remarked.

President Murmu also acknowledged the immense pressure and challenges the team overcame, noting the "ups and downs of hope and despair" on the path to victory. She recognized that their success was built on hard work, exceptional skill, strong determination, and the unwavering support of their families and cricket lovers.

Before concluding, the President also extended her appreciation to the head coach, bowling coach, fielding coach, and all support staff who were crucial to the Indian Women's Cricket Team's success. She expressed confidence that the team will continue to keep Indian cricket at the top in the future.
