Keonjhar, Jan 13: An extended branch of the National School of Drama (NSD) will be established in Odisha’s Keonjhar district soon, said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday.

The NSD Centre in Odisha will be a hub for theatre and performing arts, Majhi added.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of an acting workshop organised by the dance institute Spiritza and NSD at the Keonjhar District Auditorium today, the Chief Minister emphasised the vital role of art and culture in society.

“Art and culture are the souls of any society. They reflect thoughts, struggles, hopes, and dreams of a civilisation” said Majhi on the occasion.

He also said that drama is a powerful medium that not only entertains but also educates, spreads awareness, and connects people with the emotions of society.

Highlighting the significance of NSD, he said, “The National School of Drama has played a historic role in shaping Indian theatre and connecting artists with the performing arts across generations. With a branch coming to Keonjhar, we aim to bridge traditional and modern art forms, providing new opportunities for young talent in the region.”
