Apple Shatters Sales Records in India on iPhone 17 Success

Apple has achieved a historic financial milestone in India, posting its highest-ever revenue for the September quarter. This landmark performance marks the company's 14th consecutive quarter of record-breaking iPhone sales in the nation and was a significant contributor to its massive $102.5 billion in global sales.

Company CEO Tim Cook pointed directly to the enthusiastic consumer reception of the new iPhone 17 series as the primary engine for this growth. During an earnings call, Cook confirmed that India set an all-time revenue record, expressing confidence that this strong momentum would carry forward into the December quarter. The company’s strategic expansion, including the launch of two new physical retail stores in India earlier this year, was also cited as a key factor in bolstering sales and brand presence.

Apple’s success is particularly noteworthy as it comes at a time when the broader Indian smartphone market is projected to contract. While overall shipments in the country are expected to shrink, market intelligence firm IDC India forecasts that Apple will defy this trend spectacularly. The tech giant is on track to sell 15.5 million iPhones in India in 2025, representing a remarkable year-over-year increase of nearly 25%.

Further analysis from Counterpoint Research highlights the exceptional performance of the latest models, with launch-month sales for the iPhone 17 lineup outpacing its predecessor by 19%. A crucial element of this success is the shifting consumer preference toward more premium devices. The sales mix of high-end 'Pro' models compared to base models is becoming increasingly favorable. Previously in the single digits, the market share for Pro models is now rapidly climbing and is expected to reach the low double digits, signaling a maturing consumer base willing to invest in top-tier technology. In response to this trend, Apple is reportedly allocating a larger share of its locally manufactured iPhones to meet domestic demand.
