Two workers crushed to death under iron bar in Jaharsuguda OMPL factory

Jharsuguda, Sept 17: In a tragic incident, two workers were killed and atleast five workmen left critically injured after an iron bar fell on a group of workers at Orissa Metaliks Private Limited (OMPL) factory at Budhipadar in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Purnchandra Jena of Ganjam and 39-year-old Alek Deo Sahu, a native of Jharkhand.

According to reports, some workers were busy in the production work near the blast furnace when a large metal plate fell on them all of a sudden. As a result, at least 7 persons were compressed under the metallic block of which two workers reportedly died on the spot.

Following this, the injured were rushed to the hospital in critical conditions, while the deceased’s bodies were seized by police and sent for postmortem.

Later, workers resorted to a protest followed by cease work and demanded due compensation to the deceased’s and injured ones’ families.
