Bhubaneswar, March 5: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday said that his Government will work to fulfil the dreams of legendary leader former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik.

“Biju Babu fought throughout his life for his self-respect, Odisha's pride, and the dignity of the country. Biju Babu dreamed many dreams for Odisha. Our Government will work to fulfil those dreams," Majhi told media persons after paying floral tributes at the statue of Biju Patnaik on the State Assembly premises.

Maintaining that Biju Patnaik was respected across the party lines, Majhi said, “Today is the birth anniversary of the great people's leader Biju Patnaik. On this occasion, I pay my tributes to him. He was a great freedom fighter, industrialist, skilled pilot, and also a politician. From his student life to the Emergency period, his life was filled with struggles. He fought throughout his life for his self-respect, Odisha's pride, and the dignity of the country.”

The Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal was founded on December 26, 1997, and named after its legendary leader, Biju Patnaik, the father of Naveen Patnaik.

Biju Patnaik was Chief Minister of Odisha for two terms, the first from 1961-1963 and then from 1990-1995. He passed away on April 17, 1997.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik paid tribute Biju Patnaik on his birth anniversary.

In a post on X, the PM said "On his birth anniversary today, I pay tributes to Shri Biju Patnaik Ji and remember his passion towards furthering the progress of Odisha," PM Modi said in a post on X.
