Bhubaneswar, May 10: President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday conferred the prestigious Padma Shri awards to two distinguished Odia artists in a ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries graced the occasion.
The recipients of the Padma Shri were 'pattachitra' maestro Binod Maharana and renowned folk dancer Bhagwat Pradhan, recognized for their exceptional contributions to their respective art forms.
Bhagwat Pradhan, aged 85 and hailing from Bargarh district, has dedicated five decades to performing and propagating his art. Throughout his illustrious career, he has imparted his knowledge to over 600 disciples.
Similarly, Binod Maharana from Khurda is acclaimed for his mastery in the intricate art of 'Patta painting'. Not only has Maharana excelled in his craft, but he has also nurtured the talents of the younger generation by providing training in palm leaf carving and Patta painting.
President Murmu highlighted their achievements in a social media post, commending their dedication to preserving and promoting Odisha's rich artistic heritage.
