Bhadrak, Nov 9: In a shocking incident reported from Pirhat area of Odisha’s Bhadrak district, a 14-year-old boy was hospitalized after allegedly being subjected to third-degree torture by police.

The minor boy has been identified as Diptikanta Majhi, son of Sharat Majhi of Narendrapur Gram Panchayat under Pirhat police limits.

As per reports, Pirhat Police had picked up Diptikanta on the night of November 2 in connection with a mobile phone theft case. Sources said that the complainant was asked to leave the police station after preliminary questioning and the minor was detained.

Police officials then allegedly subjected him to inhuman physical torture away from CCTV surveillance within the police station premises.

Following the incident, the boy was admitted to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Further information regarding departmental action and the investigation into the allegations is awaited.
