Tusker tramples six-yr-old girl to death in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal, Jan 30: In an unfortunate incident, a six-year-old girl was trampled to death by an elephant in Motunga locality of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district late last night.
The deceased has been identified as Pihu, daughter of Nanda Naik and the incident has been reported from Handifuta village under Motunga police limits in the district.
As per reports, Pihu was sleeping when the tusker strayed into her house last night and trampled her to death. Two of her family members narrowly escaped unhurt.
Following the mishap, tension irrupted in the village as locals blocked Hindol-Gudiakateni Road demanding compensation for the victim’s family.
Upon getting the information, Motunga police and Forest Department officials arrived at the spot and pacified the agitators. The cops have also seized the body of the girl and sent it for post-mortem.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
