Tusker tramples farmer to death in Odisha’s Ganjam

Ganjam, Oct 27: In a tragic incident, a tusker trampled a 55-year-old farmer to death in Odisha’s Ganjam district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Tuna Gouda, a resident of Bhanjanagar area in the district.

As per reports, the incident took place in the Gunduribadi area of the Mujagada range in the North Ghumusar reserve forest of the district when a herd of 17 elephants barged into the village in search of food last evening.

They also destroyed standing paddy crops. Local farmers along with the deceased had gone to their fields to chase away the jumbos and save their crops. 

Suddenly, a tusker from the herd attacked Gouda and trampled him leading to his death on the spot.

After getting the information, forest department officials along with the local police rushed to the spot and took of the situation.

The body of the deceased person was seized and sent for post-mortem.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
