Dhenkanal, Jan 7: The tusker which was relocated to the Elephant Rescue Centre located at Kapilash in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district yesterday for wreaking havoc in several villages in Boudh’s Kantamal area died today.
The pachyderm died in the wee hours today. However, the exact cause of death will be ascertained after post-mortem, informed the District Forest Officer (DFO).
Notably, the mahout of the tusker was arrested and sent to jail on charges of ganja smuggling a few days back.
Thereafter, the elephant had wreaked havoc in several villages in the Kantamal area in the Boudh district. Following this, the forest officials in Boudh tranquilized it and relocated to Kapilash Elephant Rescue Centre on Saturday for its adequate maintenance.
The overdose of tranquilizer is suspected to be the reason behind its death.
