​​​​​​​Jagatsinghpur, Jan 23: While the state sinks in devotion worshiping Maa Saraswati on Thursday , a youth was thrashed to death at a village in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur distirct.

Aggrieved on it, locals took to a road blockade with keeping the body near the weekly market, that later took a violent turn.

Police, resorted to lathi charge, to disperse the crowd said sources.

The incident took place at the Chatara village where one Basudev Das was killed over previous enmity.

According to report, an unidentified assassin killed a youth, identified as Basudev in the morning. As the news spread, locals gathered at the spot and demanded arrest of the accused soon and a sizeable compensation to the bereaved family. Following this, they blocked the village road placing the body on the street that jeopardized traffic movement.

On being informed, The Jagatsinghpur Sadar Police rushed to the spot to tackle the situation but in vain. As the situation reportedly escalated and the mob turned further violent, the police resorted to lathi charge.

Situation is under control. Armed forces are deployed on the spot to address untoward situation if any, said police.
