New Delhi, July 2: Everything can be expunged in the world of Prime Minister Narendra Modi but not in reality, said Congress MP and the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday.
His remarks came after a significant portion of his speech in the Lower House was deleted by the Chair, apparently due to uncorroborated facts and statements based on unverified information.
“Truth can be expunged in PM Modi’s world, but in reality, it can’t be expunged,” the Congress MP told reporters at the Parliament complex.
Gandhi also sent a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker on Tuesday, raising objections to the expunction and called for the restoration of the portions of the speech that have been deleted from House proceedings.
On Monday, in his maiden address as the Leader of Opposition, Rahul delivered a fiery 100-minute speech, intensifying criticism of the BJP-led NDA government and provoking an unprecedented response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In his no-holds-barred attack, he assailed the government on a range of issues including Agniveers, Manipur crisis and NEET.
His remarks on Hindus and accusations that the ruling party is dividing people along communal lines and spreading hatred elicited loud and strong protests from the treasury benches.
The expunged portions of Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha speech included his comments on Hindus, references to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), remarks on industrialists Adani and Ambani, and claims that the Agniveer scheme was imposed on the Army by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
