Keonjhar, Mar 18: The Truck Owners’ Association in Odisha’s Keonjhar has observed a 24-hour bandh in protest against the railway project linking Gandhamardan B Mines managed by the OMC.

The agitators are demanding the cancellation of the said project, arguing that its implementation, spanning from Suakathi to Guhaldihi, would result in job loss for truckers as transportation of iron ores would transition solely to trains.

The Keonjhar Merchants’ Association and 15 other local organizations have garnered support for the strike.

The district witnessed disruption in normal activities as a result of the strike. Supporters of the bandh obstructed train movement by sitting on railway tracks.

Business establishments and educational institutions in Keonjhar district remained closed due to the bandh while movement of vehicles on road was also affected.

However, emergency services have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.
