Kendrapara, Aug 12: Tricolour making has brought good income for women members of Utkal Gramina Production Group in Golarhat village unde Derabish block of Kendrapara district.
Over hundreds of Hindu and Muslim women members of the Self-Help Group (SHG) are working hard to make 1 lakh Tricolour by August 14 morning. The Mission Shakti Department of the Odisha government has awarded the task to the group for their track record in sewing school and college uniforms, women's dresses, khadi dresses and other stitching-related works.

We have been assigned to stitch 1 lakh Tricolour under the Har Ghar Tiranga programme, said Sarifa Begum, who is a graduate.
“I joined the SHG after completing my graduation and learnt to stitch here. Now, I am sewing around 500 flags per day,” said Sarifa. Similarly, Maheswaeta Nayak of the group is earning her livelihood getting stitching training in the SHG.
The SHG founded in 2014 is doing well, especially, stitching and embroidery work. Now they have been awarded the Tricolour making assignment. They will be assigned several big projects in future for their dedication and perfection in the field, said district Mission Shakti Project Coordinator Kailash Chandra Senapati.
The SHG has 72 permanent members, but now 120 women are engaged in sewing the Tricolour to meet the deadline. The members are getting Rs 2 to Rs 3 for sewing a flag.
