Bhubaneswar, Dec 16: Negligence in waste management proved costly for several establishments in Bhubaneswar after BMC Mayor Sulochana Das caught violators red-handed and imposed hefty fines during a morning cleanliness drive at the Unit-4 Fish Market and surrounding areas.
According to officials, Swad Sadan Premium and Bhaina Hotel were fined ₹1 lakh each for improper disposal of waste. Similarly, Unitech Auto Workshop and Reliance were penalized ₹1 lakh each for dumping garbage behind their premises.
The Goal Educational Institute and China Garden were also directed by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to pay fines of ₹1 lakh each for violating cleanliness norms.
In addition, abandoned cars and bikes found near the Unit-4 Mosque were seized and removed. The enforcement action, carried out early in the morning, resulted in fines totaling several lakhs of rupees.
