Baramati (Maharashtra), August 9:A trainer aircraft veered off the runway during a training exercise at Baramati airfield in Maharashtra on Sunday. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill said the aircraft, identified asVT-SEX, moved off the extended paved surface to the right side beyond the Runway 29 threshold. Captain Chirag Shashikant Doifode and cadet Abhijeet Jundre were on board at the time.

According to officials, the aircraft initially entered the runway through Link Bravo and lined up at the threshold of Runway 29, where a rejected take-off was carried out. It was subsequently positioned at the threshold of Runway 11 for another rejected take-off.

During the exercise, the aircraft could not come to a complete stop on the runway and continued beyond the Runway 29 threshold before veering off the extended paved surface to the right.

The incident comes as the government continues efforts to strengthen aviation safety across the country. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has undertaken several initiatives, including seminars involving senior officials from the Civil Aviation Ministry, industry leaders and aviation professionals to discuss measures to improve safety standards.

India is currently the world's third-largest domestic civil aviation market. Officials said domestic passenger traffic has grown at an average annual rate of around 9 per cent over the past decade, while cargo volumes have increased by 2.9 per cent.

The fleet size of Indiancarriers has also more than doubled, rising from 395 aircraft in 2014 to 844 in 2025.
