Unnao, July 10: At least 18 people were killed and more than 30 injured when a double-decker bus rammed into a milk tanker on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district early on Wednesday.
The bus was traveling from Sitamarhi in Bihar to Delhi when it collided with the milk tanker from behind near Garha village, according to official sources. The impact of the collision was so severe that the bus was nearly pulverised, and passengers were flung from the vehicle.
Police and emergency personnel rushed to the scene to rescue victims and transport the injured to hospitals. Visuals from the site depicted a grim scene, with bodies strewn on the ground, twisted metal scraps, shattered glass, and destroyed belongings.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
UP Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh acknowledged the deadly accident and expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also conveyed his grief over the tragedy and directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
