Minimum temperatures expected to increase by four degrees soon

Winter's grip on the state is beginning to loosen. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a gradual warming trend over the coming week. While dry weather currently prevails across Odisha, night temperatures are expected to witness a noticeable upward shift after a brief period of stability.

According to the latest bulletin from the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, there will be no large change in the minimum temperature (night temperature) during the next two days. However, the mercury is projected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius during the subsequent four to five days across various districts.

Twin City Forecast: Warmer Days and Misty Mornings

Residents of the Twin Cities should prepare for a shift in weather patterns. The seven-day outlook indicates a steady rise in temperatures for both Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, accompanied by hazy mornings.

For Bhubaneswar, the week begins with moderate fog and a maximum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius. As the week progresses, morning fog and mist will give way to partly cloudy skies, eventually turning mainly clear. Daytime temperatures are set to climb, reaching a high of 34 degrees Celsius by the middle of the week and staying consistent through day seven. Night temperatures will hover between 17 and 18 degrees Celsius.

Cuttack will experience a similar warming trend. Starting with a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius and a cool night at 15 degrees Celsius, the city will see temperatures rise steadily. By the end of the forecast period, daytime highs will touch 33 degrees Celsius, with minimums increasing to 17 degrees Celsius. Mornings will likely see fog or mist, clearing up to reveal partly cloudy skies initially, which will transition to mainly clear skies later in the week.

Fog Warning for Coastal Districts

Visibility remains a key concern for early commuters. The regional weather office has issued a forecast for shallow to moderate fog at isolated pockets in the districts of Puri, Ganjam, Khordha, and Jagatsinghpur. This alert is valid until the morning of February 8.

For the subsequent 24 hours (February 8 to 9), the fog warning persists for Puri, Ganjam, and Jagatsinghpur. From February 9 through February 12, the foggy conditions are expected to become more localized, primarily affecting isolated pockets in Puri and Jagatsinghpur.

Current Temperature Extremes

As of February 7, Jharsuguda recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 34.4 degrees Celsius. On the other end of the spectrum, Rourkela reported the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 7.6 degrees Celsius. In the hill stations, G. Udayagiri remained the coldest spot, recording a low of 5.6 degrees Celsius.
