Cuttack, August 22: In an unfortunate incident, a woman home guard of Angul district lost her legs following a suicide attempt.
The lady home guard who has been identified as Souridhri Sahu tried to end her life after being unable to bear the torture by the wife of a DIG-ranked official of Odisha police where she was engaged in household work.
A complaint in this regard was lodged with Home Guard DG, Sudhanshu Sarangi. According to the complaint, she was engaged at IPS Brijesh Kumar Rai’s residence for household work. However, the wife of the IPS used to torture and abuse her for neglecting her work. She also threatened Souridhri to dismiss from her job.
On the day of the incident, the wife of the IPS officer asked Souridhri to wash her clothes. However, she dragged her from the room and abused her as she expressed her inability citing a leg injury.
Unable to bear the regular torture, Souridhri decided to finish her life and jumped before a moving train. Fortunately, she survived but lost her legs in the incident. In her complaint, Souridhri has asked for compensation and money for her treatment.
Meanwhile, IPS officer Brijesh Kumar Rai refuted the allegations as baseless and said, “She has been disturbed since the last few days following her personal issues. She has lost her legs in an accident. All the allegations that my wife was torturing her is false”.
The DIG has been transferred to state police headquarters, Cuttack.
