Three of family killed as car hits bike in Odisha’s Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda, Aug 20: At least three persons including a woman and her three-year-old daughter were killed after a car hit a bike in Kolabira area of Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.

The deceased have been identified as Anjan Patel, his sister Anjali Patel and his niece Anishka Patel, residents of Kumudapali village.

As per reports, the mishap took place on National Highway (NH) 49 near Siriyapali forest under Kolabira police limits when the trio was returning home on a bike and the car hit them from the rear. Following the mishap, the car overturned on the roadside.

As a result, the trio sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where Anjan was declared brought dead, while Anjali succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment. 

Her minor daughter was later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla where she breathed her last during treatment.

The driver of the car, identified as Rajendra Dash of Kolabira, was also critically injured in the accident and has been shifted to Bhubaneswar for treatment.

Kolabira police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. 

The dead bodies will be handed over to the family members after the post-mortem, said the police.
