Patna, May 3: The shocking incident from Dianaali village in Patna Block has captured national attention after Jitu Munda reportedly carried his deceased sister’s body to a local bank to claim money owed to her. The tragic event, which occurred three months after the sister’s death, has once again put Jitu Munda’s family in the spotlight as they prepare for a traditional purification ceremony (Shuddhikriya) today.
Friends, relatives, and community members are expected to participate, despite the Munda community’s fear about social stigma.
According to reports, Jitu Munda had gone to the nearby bank to deposit his sister’s money. However, bank officials allegedly refused to release the funds without a death certificate. In a desperate attempt, Jitu exhumed his sister’s decomposed body from the village cremation ground and carried it over a distance of about four kilometres to the bank. The incident sparked widespread discussion and drew attention from across the state, leading to political debates and public outrage.
The Chief Minister has assigned the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) to investigate the matter, with various state agencies and organisations extending support to the family. Additionally, Physicswala contributed ₹10 lakh, and a Kerala-based organisation donated ₹1 lakh to assist the family. Several other organisations and individuals are also coming forward to provide financial aid.
