Mumbai/Bhubaneswar, May 21: Tragedy struck an Odia family in Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon when three members lost their lives in a devastating building collapse in Kalyan, a suburban area of the city. The incident occurred after a slab of the top floor of a four-storey building caved in, triggering a cascading collapse down the lower floors.

The deceased from Odisha have been identified as Pramila Sahoo, a resident of Purushottampur in Ganjam district, and her two daughters Sunita Sahoo and Sujata Padhi. According to sources, Pramila had travelled to Mumbai to visit her daughters, who were residing in the building at the time of the incident.

In total, six people were killed and six others injured in the collapse. Emergency response teams, including the Fire Brigade, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and District Disaster Force, swiftly reached the site to launch rescue and relief operations. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed condolences on social media, stating:

> “Deeply pained by the news of the building collapse in Kalyan that claimed six lives. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased during this difficult time.”

He also announced an ex-gratia financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased and assured that rescue and relief operations are underway on a war footing.

This heart-wrenching incident has sent shockwaves through the Odia community both in Mumbai and Odisha. Many have called for a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse and urged the authorities to take preventive measures to avoid such tragedies in the future.
