Bhubaneswar, Mar 8: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) announced that three express trains will soon originate from Bhubaneswar New Railway Station (BBSN).
ECoR released an official statement on Friday and stated that the Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express, Bhubaneswar-Secunderabad Visakha Express, and Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam Intercity Express will soon start operating from Bhubaneswar New Railway Station.
The date from the services will commence will be announced soon.
As per reports, these trains will also halt at Mancheswar Station, making travel easier for people in the northern parts of the city.
Additionally, as Mancheswar is close to major engineering and medical colleges in North Bhubaneswar, the move will also benefit thousands of students. It will also ensure easier access to nearby hospitals providing a big relief for patients and their caregivers.
By shifting these services to BBSN, the overcrowding at Bhubaneswar Main Station in the south of the city is expected to reduce, making travel smoother for everyone.
It is worth mentioning that under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, Indian Railways has plans to upgrade BBSN with expanded parking and circulation areas, modern waiting rooms and restrooms, lifts on all platforms, improved platform lighting, enhanced coach watering systems, and a new foot-over bridge to strengthen station infrastructure.
The Bhubaneswar New Railway Station (BBSN), situated between Mancheswar and Barang, was opened in July 2018 as a satellite terminal. It was built to ease congestion at the main station. It features seven platforms and nine tracks and currently offers amenities like food stalls, parking, and basic waiting areas, with further upgrades in progress.
