Bhubaneswar, Feb 11: Bhubaneswar has been identified as the city with the highest number of crimes against women in Odisha, registering 298 cases during the 2024-25 financial year, according to the Odisha State Commission for Women’s latest annual report. The report was released at a special event commemorating the Commission's 33rd foundation day, with Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida as the chief guest, and ministers Mukesh Mahaling and Sampad Chandra Swain, along with Commission Chairperson Shovana Mohanty, attending the function.

The Commission's annual report reveals that a total of 2,064 cases of crimes against women were filed during the fiscal year, with 1,879 of them successfully resolved. Domestic violence remains the leading crime, accounting for 852 cases. Other significant issues include dowry-related harassment and abandonment (675 cases) and violations of women’s rights (182 cases). The report also highlights cases of indecent behaviour (137), dowry deaths (12), suspicious deaths (14), rape (24), and fraud or cheating (30).

Geographically, Bhubaneswar recorded the highest number of such incidents, followed by Cuttack (214 cases), Khordha (210 cases), Puri (181 cases), Ganjam (120 cases), Bhadrak (113 cases), and Jajpur (103 cases).

The Odisha State Commission for Women continues to address these challenges and advocate for stronger measures to protect women's rights and ensure justice for victims.
