Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: The official residence of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi is set to move from Lower PMG to Rajpath ( AG to Raj Bhavan). This change comes in response to safety concerns, as his current residence, B-1 quarters in Lower PMG is located near the protest ground, posing a security risk for the CM.
The decision aims to mitigate potential threats when the Chief Minister is out or returning to his quarters.
According to the report, following a visit by Majhi and his family to the government quarters at VIIIMR-3, renovation work has begun to prepare the building for his residence. The area will be designated as a high-security zone to ensure safety.
Majhi has been residing in the B-1 quarters since he joined the office but has agreed to the request from the Public Administration and Home Departments to relocate. The new bungalow, along with the complaint room, sits on a 4-acre plot. Plans include landscaping the front area and constructing 12 one-bedroom quarters at the back for his security team and support staff, including a personal assistant, cooks, and gardeners.
To enhance security, police watchposts will be established around the quarters, and a high-security zone will be created extending from AG square to Raj Bhavan square. Additional police posts will be positioned along the route, and improved lighting will be installed along the service road.
Worth mentioning, after 24 years, the Chief Minister of the state will once again return to the governemnt quarter meant for Chief Minister. From 1995 to 1999, the late Janaki Ballabh Patnaik lived in this government bungalow. After him Giridhar Gamang and Hemanand Biswal also stayed in this bungalow. But after Naveen Patnaik became the Chief Minister in 2000, he did not stay in this bunglow and lived in his private residence 'Naveen Nivas'. Now after more than two decades, CM Mohan Majhi is going to stay here after becoming the Chief Minister.
