New Delhi, Oct 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 115th episode of Mann Ki Baat reiterated that there is no provision for Digital Arrest in Indian law.

Thus, the PM asked the people who are receiving such fraudulence calls in the name of Digital Arrest should stop, think and act properly.

Underlining the fraudulence cases on the rise relating to digital arrest the PM Said,"I will say that there is no system like digital arrest in the law, it is just a fraud, a deception, and the work of criminals. Those who engage in this are enemies of society. To combat the fraud happening in the name of digital arrest, various investigative agencies are working together with state governments."

"Under the Digital Arrest frauds, callers portray themselves as police, CBI, RBI or narcotics officials, and wreak panic in the society. People asked me to talk about this in Mann Ki Baat. It is important for you to understand this. The first step is your personal information. They collect all your personal information. 2nd Step is the atmosphere of fear. They will scare you so much that you won’t even be able to think. Step 3- The time pressure…Victims of digital arrest are from all sections and ages. Many people have lost lakhs of their hard-earned money," said PM Modi.

"If you ever get a call like this, don’t be afraid. You should know that no investigating agency does such interrogation over phone or video call. There are 3 steps of digital security- stop, think, and take action. If possible, take a screenshot and do the recording. No government agencies give such threats over the phone nor do they demand money," he added.

He underlined that various investigative agencies are working in line with the state governments to curb the menace.

"To create coordination among these agencies, the National Cyber Coordination Center has been established.

One can use the hashtag #SafeDigitalIndia for awareness.

“I would also urge schools and colleges to involve students in the campaign against cyber scams," the PM added.
