Gandhinagar, May 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asserted that Pakistan’s use of terrorism is not a case of proxy warfare but a calculated war strategy, and emphasized that India will respond in kind.
Speaking at an event focused on urban development initiatives of the Gujarat Government, Modi referenced Operation Sindoor and accused Pakistan of openly endorsing terrorism as part of its military doctrine.
“This is not a proxy war,” he said. “Those who were killed during India’s strikes on May 6 were honored with state funerals in Pakistan. Their coffins were draped in Pakistani flags, and military personnel paid tribute with full salutes. This clearly shows these are state-backed actions, a deliberate war strategy.”
Modi highlighted that in every conventional war between India and Pakistan, the Indian armed forces have emerged victorious. He said, realizing it cannot win in direct combat, Pakistan turned to supporting terrorism by training and arming militants.
“No matter how healthy the body is, a single thorn can cause continuous pain. We have resolved to remove that thorn,” he said, in a pointed reference to cross-border terrorism.
Recalling historical events, Modi noted that the night India was partitioned, an attack on Kashmir was launched by Mujahideen forces backed by Pakistan. Pakistan captured part of our territory in the name of the Mujahideen. Had Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s advice been followed and the intruders eliminated then and there, the decades of terrorism we’ve faced might have been avoided,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister’s strong statement comes amid heightened tensions and reflects a hardened stance on cross-border terrorism as a national security threat.
