Bhubaneswar, Aug 16: Tension prevailed at Unit II Market Building after a face-off between shop owners and street vendors on Wednesday.

The Unit-II market building earlier remained closed for over two weeks owing to a face-off between the traders and street vendors.

The Central Market Association of Unit 2 Market Building had observed an indefinite shutdown of their shops since July 17 seeking immediate eviction of makeshift vending stalls from the market building premises.

The members of the Central Market Association had demanded that they will not open their shops till a permanent solution is worked out to prevent alleged encroachment of the footpath by temporary vendors. The market was reopened on August 3. The BMC on the other has identified three patches of land for the street vendors.

Sources said that as many as 180-200 vendors run their business in and around the market building.
