Temp relief to Barabati-Cuttack MLA Md. Moquim: SC grants exemption from surrender

New Delhi, April 16: Barabati-Cuttack MLA Mohammed Moquim has got a temporary relief from judicial complicacy in connection with the (Odisha Rural Housing & Development Corporation) ORHDC loan scam case on Tuesday.

The Supreme Court has granted him an exemption from surrendering till April 22.

Hearing a writ petition filed by Md. Moquim on April 10, the Apex Court ordered that he is exempted from surrendering with the Court till the next hearing.

The next hearing is scheduled on April 22.

Worth mentioning, the special vigilance court in September 2022 had sentenced Moquim and three others to three years of rigorous imprisonment and penalty of ₹50,000 each over submitting forged and fabricated documents to avail a loan of ₹1.5 crore from Odisha Rural Housing & Development Corporation, a state agency.

Challenging the order the legislator had moved the Orissa High Court, which also upheld the Special Vigilance Corut’s order.
