Athmallik, Aug 2: In a disturbing incident, a teacher allegedly beat a Class-III student with a rod at Gopinathpur High Primary School under the Athmallik. The incident has sparked outrage among local residents and parents.
According to the student's mother, Aarti Sahu, her daughter Swagatika Pradhan, a Class-III student, was subjected to physical punishment by the teacher, Biren Behera, who used a rod on her. The mother claimed that the teacher hit her daughter in a manner similar to how one might beat a cow or a bull, leaving noticeable marks on the child's back.
Local villagers held a protest in front of the school demanding action against the teacher. Despite the teacher's apparent violation of government orders, which strictly prohibit corporal punishment, the teacher has reportedly not shown any remorse or compliance with the government's directive on such matters.
The issue was brought to light after the student's mother lodged a complaint, calling for appropriate action. After receiving assurances from the school authorities, the parents returned home, still demanding accountability for the incident.
As the matter unfolds, the local education authorities are expected to investigate the allegations and take necessary action in accordance with the guidelines laid out by the government regarding corporal punishment in schools.
